What to eat

I think we discovered the most expensive treat we make at Christmas is ChexMix.  It shouldn't be expensive -it's just cereal and nuts and crackers, but we get the different parts at different stores at different times....  usually wait for the traditional coupon for the cereal; buy the nuts at Costco or someplace like that.  So the overall expense isn't the problem.  The problem is that because we never end up with all the parts home fresh from the store on the same day people around here decide to eat their ChexMix deconstructed.  In fancy cooking contests, deconstructed dishes are all the rage, but around here, it just means that somebody decides to have a couple bowls of cereal in the middle of the night; or someone gets a craving for nuts or crackers; and voila' - we are short about half the ingredients for ChexMix so have to go repurchase them.

yesterday coming home from Anchorage, we stopped at a couple different stores and ended up with all the parts in one place at one time, so Alicia and Brian whipped up a big batch today.  We added Wheat Thins and Cheezit crackers, pretzels, nuts, cherrios, chex and double the spicy butter. Very Very yummy.

sounds yummy.
my home is allergic to about half those ingredients, so we don't do chex mix...

We'll have the standard candies and fudges and caramels though-

Yeah, and if you did it with rice crackers and Indian spicy mix (dahl flour) and other gluten free things it really would cost a fortune. . .
